Thank you for coming to my article. I must forewarn you that this is going to be pretty long given that this cast I have selected has multiple selections per Character – so bear with me. I may repeat some things accidentally in some of these selections so I apologize in advance if I do.
I will continue updating this list as I find more ideas for selections. I’m still working on who I can picture playing the main lead, Daniel Remington (the superhero of the movie). So far I only have one person in mind. I was going to also pick Andrew Garfield, but let’s face it: he’s a pretty busy man with the Amazing Spider-Man franchise (as much as I would be honored for him to play the role).
So, without further ado, here is who I would have play my characters (so far):
Character: Daniel Remington
The protagonist of “Love & Transformation” and hero of the story. I would cast CHRIS ROCHE to play him. You more than likely don’t know who this actor is since he is still pretty unknown. You will, however, see him in the “Revenge & Retribution” short film since he plays this character. He is an astounding actor. I love the fact that he’s unknown because he has so much to offer.
He brought so much passion and dedication to the character while performing him. He knows this character like the back of his hand. He can express the anger and rejection Daniel displays, but at the same time, transition into bringing you hope and inspiring you like how Daniel does towards the end of the film. It was an honor directing him.
Character: Jonathan Sloan
The antagonist of “Love & Transformation” and anti-hero of the story. I would cast… BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH. Where do I even begin with this actor? Technically, he is a little bit older than I would like since Jonathan is in his mid 20′s. But who cares! He has blown me away with every film and television show I’ve seen him in. Especially with his recent work as the villain in “Star Trek: Into Darkness”. That is exactly how I imagined Jonathan. I feel like Benedict is the perfect choice to play him because he can act out so many different emotions on the spot.
Jonathan is like that a lot. He will go from being very dismissive and sadistic, to very emotional and tragic. You don’t know what to expect from him. There will be scenes where you will feel bad for him and empathize with his actions- while in others, you will feel terrified as he shows you what he is truly capable of. Benedict has mastered these emotions in spades. I feel like he would bring out so many emotions from the rest of the cast. The antagonist, to me, is one of the most important castings when putting together a feature film.
JOSEPH GORDON LEVITT
Another selection for the role of antagonist, Jonathan Sloan. I am a big fan of Joseph’s work. The fact that he just wrote, directed, and starred in his own film is quite a big accomplishment. He’s a very dedicated person. In every role that I’ve seen him play, I know he puts his all into.
My favorite so far has to be his role as John Blake in The Dark Knight Rises. What really grabbed me and convinced me he could play a great Jonathan was the scene where he has a sit down with Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and discusses his past.
A big thing I am looking for in the role of Jonathan is for the actor to have vulnerability. To me, a good villain is someone you can relate to. Not really someone who you feel sorry for. But someone you can emphasize with. Because that’s when you start to care about them. Even when their actions are horrifying and evil, you understand why they are doing what they are doing.
A quick example of this is General Zod in Man of Steel. Yeah, the guy wanted to kill everyone on Earth and was extremely angry. But you understand why and that all he really wants is to help his own people.
Going back to Joseph, I feel like he can definitely bring that vulnerability and empathy. Not only that, but I feel like he can also tap into that dark and horrifying person Jonathan becomes. As I’ve said before, Joseph is a very dedicated man. I know if he were selected he would put his heart into this role and make it into something phenomenal.
Ah you didn’t see this one coming, did you? Christian has got to be one of my favorite actors. I’ve watched almost every single one of his movies. Like Joseph, he’s a very dedicated actor. Have you seen The Machinist? This guy shed LOTS of pounds for that role, and then put them on again for Batman. There aren’t many dedicated actors like him.
I may seem like I’m copying selections here, but I chose Christian because of his work on Batman. Like Joseph, Christian can also display that vulnerability very well. What really sold me was his role in The Dark Knight Rises. How we’re introduced to this broken and worn out Bruce Wayne. You can feel his pain, his grief, and his heartbreak.
I would love to see him play Jonathan just so he can finally be a villain (or anti-hero in this case). I want to see him lose himself in this role of Jonathan and take it to a whole new level of disturbing. Plus he’s fought against iconic villains in The Dark Knight Trilogy that had an assortment of personalities and morals so I’m sure he would bring something of his own assortment.
Character: Ashley Taylor
Daniel Remington’s girlfriend. She is not your typical girlfriend in this kind of film, mind you. She serves a huge purpose in not only this story, but if you read the novels, the entire trilogy. Her role gets bigger with each new book. I would cast RACHEL SPETH to play her. Like Chris, Rachel is also relatively unknown. However, she too played this character in the “Revenge & Retribution” short film.
Like her other lead actor, Rachel put so much into her role than what was required. She is filled with dedication and enthusiasm. She can display the innocent, sweet girl- but at the same time, instantly switch personalities and become hostile. That is exactly how Ashley is supposed to be since she cares a lot about the people she loves, and will stop at nothing to fight for them- even if it means risking her own life to do so. She is definitely not a damsel in distress girlfriend. She can handle herself.
What I enjoyed most about working with Rachel is how much she knew about her character. I requested that her and Chris should read both of my novels. Even though they were only acting out a few scenes from the middle part of “Revenge & Retribution”, it was crucial that they knew where their characters were going to next so it could shed some light on why their characters are behaving the way they do in the movie.
Rachel also has a quality that Ashley has: she has this very sweet demeanor, but at the same time, you don’t want to underestimate what she’s capable of. Ashley appears like this at first in “Love & Transformation”. You think that she just plays the normal “boring girlfriend”, but in reality, she offers so much more to the story- but most of all, to Daniel. Point being is it felt very natural watching Rachel perform as Ashley. You become so invested in her acting.
I selected Shailene for a few reasons for the role of Ashley. The biggest reason would have to be for her role in The Descendants (which was an awesome movie by the way, and also happened to take place in Hawaii as well). So she’s been to Hawaii before and knows the area.
Her performance reminded me a lot of Ashley in the Love & Transformation script. Not only that, but Shailene’s personality reminds me a lot of Ashley as well. I think her performance in this movie would come off very natural, which is all the more better. Although Ashley’s role in this first movie is only supportive, she does get some butt kicking moments in the finale. I feel like Shailene’s experience with working on her upcoming film Divergent would help out with that training as well.
Not only that, but if you read the sequel to Love & Transformation, “Revenge & Retribution”, Ashley takes center stage in this story and also becomes a superhero. What she must do as her task is something I think most of us would never be able to do or know what to do. Revenge & Retribution excites me even more, just thinking about what it would be like to see this movie come into fruition.
As I’ve said before and in other articles, it’s very important that Love & Transformation is a success both financially and critically. Because if it is, you get 2 more movies with these characters (and some new ones as well). Revenge & Retribution would be a defining sequel bringing much more intensity, emotion, and the stakes high.
No need to make an intro for this person. You know her from playing Hermoine in the Harry Potter films – so Emma is definitely no stranger to playing a character from an adapted series.
She’s truly an amazing actress. She’s grown a lot in her career. I know it may seem off that I select her considering Emma does have a British accent and the character Ashley is American, born and raised in Hawaii.
But if you’ve seen Emma’s recent movies Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Bling Ring, she pulls off an American accent quite well and natural. In fact her role in Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of the main reasons I selected her.
Emma has a lot of experience acting as young women in dramatic situations and adapted characters. I think she can definitely bring that to the role of Ashley. She also has this fierceness and passion to her persona that Ashley also has when it comes to things she cares about. Which will really benefit once the sequel Revenge & Retribution becomes eventually becomes adapted.
For those of you who don’t know who this young woman is, Emma Roberts happens to be Julia Robert’s niece. She also had a big role in Scream 4. She’s been in other movies too, but her role in Scream 4 was my favorite so far.
I think if given the chance she can do a lot with the role. Similar to some of the other candidates in this selection, she’s had experience with family drama roles and also happens to have that fierceness in her acting similar to how Ashley has that in her persona.
You may not know her as a household name, but if I mention Seventh Heaven, then I hope you know what I’m talking about. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, Mackenzie played Ruthy for 11 seasons on this family drama aired by the WB.
I picked Mackenzie for a couple of reasons: The first is her experience with acting in family drama. There is a lot of family drama in Love & Transformation. Ashley is kind of the center in this; a secret hidden from her her entire life. I think Mackenzie can bring her own experiences into this role as well.
Secondly, and I may sound kind of weird for saying this, but I like her complexion. When searching for actresses for the role of Ashley, she immediately caught my attention because she looks like a girl who could have been raised in Hawaii. I live there and no, not all girls raised there are of the Asian descent.
I haven’t seen Mackenzie in much lately, so if she ends up getting this, I think this could be a big opportunity for her – especially considering where her character goes in the sequel (Revenge & Retribution).
Character: Todd Taylor
Ashley’s father. I would cast TOM CRUISE to play him. Say what you want about him, but I have yet to see a movie from him that I haven’t liked. He’s a top notch and dedicated actor. He’s played an abundant number of different types of characters so the experience is a benefit to this film. I feel like what’s really important if having unknowns as leads is having very talented and well-known actors supporting them. Not only to give them recognition, but to bring out more emotions and quality. So basically a role model.
I know Tom does a lot of action films with lead roles, but even this supporting role has some great action in it as well. His character goes through a lot emotionally more than anyone in the whole film I think. Just imagine: What would it be like to see your best friend die in front of you? Everyday for the past 18 years you blame yourself for it. Not only for that, but for not fulfilling their dying wish and taking care of their son. Tom can bring the action, but I feel like he can also hook us emotionally very well.
ROBERT DOWNEY J.R.
Again, another person that doesn’t need an intro. Robert is also one of my favorite actors. Every role I’ve seen him in he disappears into character and seems to have a blast from it. Besides his most noteworthy roles as playing as billionaire playboy Tony Stark/Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes, I mainly selected him for some of his other minor roles.
In one movie he plays a caring father who also happens to be principal at his teenage daughter’s high school. So he definitely has experience with playing that father role. Robert can also be made to look like he’s 25, or older as Todd is also around the age of 45 in this movie in present day period. So there wouldn’t be a need to have 2 actors.
More importantly, I think Robert can bring a lot to the role of Todd. Even when he plays Tony Stark I cared for his character a lot. Seeing him at his worst in Iron Man 3 and in his best in The Avengers. He defines every movie he’s in. I know he would do the same for this movie, even though his role is minor, yet still very important.
Okay, this guy doesn’t even need an intro. You know who he is. In fact, I even picked Hugh for his role as Wolverine in his recent outing, The Wolverine. Wolverine reminded me a lot of Todd… emotionally. Todd is a man who has lived with so much guilt and depression for over 18 years- having lost his best friend in battle.
When I saw The Wolverine, I started to care for the character in a way I never did before. Yeah, the other movies went into his past. But it wasn’t until this one where we see him really vulnerable and broken.
I think Hugh could bring a lot of those emotions to the role of Todd and make us feel that pain the character goes through. Plus he can look like he’s in his early 20′s (if he shaves) and look older. So there wouldn’t be a need to use 2 actors for the role of Todd (1 for the early 20′s Todd, the other early 40′s).
Character: Jaime Taylor
Todd’s wife and Ashley’s mother. I would cast MICHELLE MONAGHAN to play Jaime for a good couple of reasons: 1) Because of her personality in most of the films I have seen her in. She has this very sweet, motherly kind of personality- yet at the same time, she can get really deep into emotion easily. I know I am using that word a lot (and will be mentioning it more with other characters on here), but I feel like with Jaime and her husband, it’s very important that we feel attached to them. Jaime deals with the same exact guilt that her husband does. She also watched her best friend (Sarah) die and has failed to fulfill her best friend’s dying wish of taking care of her son.
Reason #2: Her past chemistry with Tom Cruise. I’m a huge fan of “M:I:III”. It’s my personal favorite between all of them, even though I like each in their own unique way. I feel like her and Tom both have such great chemistry. They really brought out each other’s emotions so well with intensity. Emotion and motivation are what I think gives the movie it’s soul and purpose. It’s what makes every character come to life. I feel like Michelle and Tom can replicate that here with these characters, as well and make some outstanding performances out of it.
Miss Hathaway… where do I even begin with this woman. Not only is she one of the most respectful and down to earth actresses I know of – but she’s incredibly talented with each role she selects. She has this fiery passion of dedication, and to me, I see it reflect in every single movie she’s been in. She goes the extra mile.
Even though the character Jaime is minor, as I’ve stated before in the previous candidate, her role is very important. Jaime is the driver of emotions in the very beginning of the film. Her reaction to this tragic event is what should get audiences shocked and teary-eyed.
I think Anne would display this in spades. I know she may be still look young as a person and may not seem believable enough to have an 18-year-old daughter, but since Love & Transformation begins 18 years into the past and then comes into the present, it would be suitable to have the same actor for continuity. If you became emotional and felt her pain in the beginning, yet she’s replaced by an older actress for the rest of the movie in present day, would you still feel those emotions knowing it’s someone else performing? Or feel them as strongly?
I also noticed that Anne can switch emotions very easily. Look at her role as Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises. Perfect example. Not only that, but there’s a fierceness to her acting that she can display since Jaime herself can be pretty fierce at times (hence her daughter Ashley getting that from her as well).
Character: Matthew Remington
Todd’s best friend. Sarah’s husband. Daniel’s deceased father. I would cast JAMES FRANCO to play him. Wait, what did I just say? Yes, you read that right. I don’t know. I feel like people don’t give him enough credit. I used to think he only did a specific kind of role until I watched 127 Hours for the first time. He was absolutely amazing in that movie. Chris Roche also looks a lot like him, too. Personally, I think it’s important that the parent and child in a film should look somewhat identical to add realism to the movie. Don’t you?
A minor, yet very important role. I will not say what his role is specifically, but boy does it give me the chills every single time I go over this character’s scenes. I’m even getting teary eyed just writing about him write now. Read the books if you haven’t yet to know what I am talking about. Then you will see why.
You may not recognize his name, but if I say Transformers movie and the role of Army Captain, you would immediately knew who I was talking about if you’ve seen those movies. Josh played William Lennox in the Transformers live-action trilogy.
I actually enjoyed his role a lot. His role reminded me of Matthew, not excluding the Army, Captain, and deployed/combat soldier part. I think Josh can also bring that charisma to Matthew’s personality that’s presented in the film. Out of all the selections on this list, I think he would have the most experience in acting in combat situations and training for combat.
Ben Affleck… Where do I even begin with this guy. Truly an incredible director and actor. I chose Ben for the role of Matthew Remington for a couple reasons: Firstly, I wouldn’t mind him directing my movie. He would make it incredible and Oscar worthy. I did hear somewhere that Ben likes to be in a starring role in order to direct. Don’t quote me on that.
But in any case, Matthew does play a huge part in the movie. I will not say what role for the sake of spoilers. But I think this is a role that Ben can blow out of the water. He’s had so many experiences with working with actors and directing them that I know he can make something special out of this role.
Character: Sarah Remington
Matthew’s wife. Jaime’s best friend. Daniel’s deceased mother. I would cast MAGGIE GRACE to play her. I think Maggie is a really talented actress. What I like most about her is her fierce persona. Sarah is like that a lot. She’s a sweetheart, but can be tough as nails when she needs to be. You do not want to underestimate this woman. I feel like Maggie would also have great chemistry with James Franco.
Although the character is VERY minor in this film, like her husband, Sarah plays a very crucial role to the entire story. You’ll realize that more when you read/watch the sequel “Revenge & Retribution” where more is explained in regards to that. I will say no more.
I selected this picture and of course Scarlett Johansson for the role of Sarah Remington for a very specific reason: her performance in The Island (which is a great movie to watch if you haven’t seen it yet). Scarlett portrays her character, Jordon 2 Delta in a very innocent, quirky, yet “aggressive when need to be” way. She also happens to be very experienced in fighting as well having had a few action roles (The Island, The Avengers, etc.).
Sarah is exactly like this. You don’t really get to see that in this movie since Sarah is only in one scene. To avoid spoilers, all I will say is read the sequel, “Revenge & Retribution”. Then you might agree with me on everything I’m saying.
Character: Jackie Valdez
Jonathan’s pregnant fiancee. I would cast CELINA JADE to play her. Most of you probably don’t know who she is. She hasn’t been in a lot of well-known films like the other supporting actors on here. She does, however, have an amazing role in the CW TV Show Arrow. She plays Shado, or better known as, the butt kicking Asian girl that mentors Oliver Queen in the island flashback scenes.
So why her? I feel like she has a lot of passion for everything she’s worked on. Judging by that picture above and by what I have seen her perform in, she can display innocence very well. Jackie is exactly like that. What happens to her is beyond tragic and heartbreaking. Her role is minor, but (like I repeatedly say with all of these minor characters) crucial. She is the main cause for Jonathan’s downfall in the film.
Character: Ben Thompson
Jonathan’s best friend. I would cast VIN DIESEL to play him. Like James Franco, you’re probably saying, “Wait, what?” I’m a big fan of Vin- especially with how warm and giving he is as an actor. You don’t see that a lot with most actors nowadays. He definitely also has that military persona to him as well since his character is Jonathan’s battle buddy during both deployments.
He also has a very minor role. But what happens to him is similar to what Jackie does to Jonathan. Ben is the spinning wheel between that. I feel like Vin could display this perfectly. Plus him and Jackie look like they would have an affair. Oops. Spoiler alert.
Character: Denise Hernandez
She has no relation to any of the characters in the film. She does, however, do an absolutely horrifying and unforgivable thing that will really disturb you. In the “Revenge & Retribution” short film, you get to see what this horrifying thing is – but her intentions are revealed in the feature film so to speak.
I would cast JAMIE CHUNG to play her. Ironically, when I created this character, I pictured someone who looks like her. Jamie would be perfect to play her. She has this charismatic charm to her personality, yet I feel like when she acts, she can truly disappear into a role. I really would love to see her play this because of the extremes she would have to go through as an actress. I think it would be an extremely challenging role for her. Not saying that to state that she's not experienced or anything. I think anyone who ends up getting this role will have that challenge.
Denise is a very complex character. Her and Jonathan have such a dynamic, yet unique relationship. What makes their relationship interesting is the fact that they have both done horrifying things. Denise was never expecting to meet another person like her – especially one who is not so judgmental at first and accepts her for who she is now.
It's very important that you feel Denise's emotions. Don't get me wrong. What she did was beyond horrible – something that I still think is quite extreme and unthinkable. But what's crucial is you feel what this character is going through; her struggle and guilt. There is so much depth underneath her persona. You get to really see that when she is around Jonathan. She becomes vulnerable to him and reveals why she does this horrifying act. She isn't just this emotionless destroyer, but instead, a broken individual who felt like her life was over and didn't know what to do next.
With her sympathetic emotional side, also comes a different side – something that would excite me to see Jamie play as: a villain. Jonathan uses Denise to get to Daniel since her and Daniel had an encounter with each other. Her and Daniel's relationship is another thing that's very interesting throughout the 3 novels. You don't really see that dynamic in the 1st book (movie) since things happen so quickly, but as you go along in the sequels, you start to discover how that encounter has left them both scarred for life – something that fuels their anger and hatred towards one another. I think it's one of the most interesting relationships out of them all – even more so than Daniel and Jonathan's relationship as hero and villain.
I hope I don't sound weird when I say this, but there's this feeling I get when I watch Jamie disappear into her roles. When she cries, I feel her emotion. It feels real and not forced. I feel bad for her character. That's exactly what we need to see for Denise. Like I said, I think Jamie is perfect for this role and hope to see her play this character.
So in conclusion, that is who I would cast for my feature film. Thinking about this truly excites me. Who knows? Maybe someday I'll get lucky. Don't get me wrong. I have NO jurisdiction on who gets selected for these roles. That’s entirely up to the studio who ends up accepting. Should you watch the Revenge & Retribution short film and think that those 2 unknown actors I mentioned for Daniel & Ashley deserve a chance as well, please comment and show your support to them.
Thanks for reading. I will keep you updated on the progress of the feature film. Here is a link for my short film "Revenge & Retribution". It was low budget and we did the best with what we had. If you like the film, please to my YouTube channel "DrStampe17".
